Orquesta de los Barrios participates in 75th anniversary celebrations of Fulbright Program

The Embassy of the United States of America invited Nestor together with the Orquesta de los Barrios to record the video on July 23rd in the gardens of the Embassy. The video of the performance will be made public on August 25th, Argentina’s Fulbright Day, and shown worldwide together with videos from other countries as part of the anniversary celebration. Nestor presented the Orquesta de los Barrios as testament to the fruits of the inspiration he drew from his experience as a Fulbright Scholar in the US, exemplifying the positive impact of the Fulbright Program.

Thanks are due to Norma Gonzalez, Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission Argentina, for promoting this opportunity and being present at the Embassy to assist and provide for a safe return home of the musicians and their instruments.

This was indeed a very special occasion for Nestor and the Orchestra made even more so by the fact that it was the first time since the pandemic that the musicians have been able to play together in person, with all the necessary precautions in place.

And the good news doesn’t stop there. Azul García Uriburu, a staunch supporter of the Orquesta de los Barrios, has arranged for Nestor and the Orchestra to begin rehearsing in person each Monday in the spacious interior of the Museo García Uriburu. This is an enormous help since rehearsals of the whole orchestra together have been on hold since the beginning of the pandemic. Furthermore, through Azul’s good offices, the Orquesta de los Barrios has been invited by the Embassy of Uruguay to perform at a ceremony to take place on August 25th at the Puente de la Mujer in Puerto Madero in celebration of Uruguay’s Independence Day and then again on August 26th in the Uruguayan Embassy itself.
