Lit Webinar: Nadine Gordimer

  • Zoom Platform and Belgrano (map)

We will begin our series on Women Nobel Prize Authors with Nadine Gordimer. She received her Nobel in Literature in 1991 but could have, as well, been granted the Nobel Prize for Peace. Born in South Africa in 1923, the author and political activist was considered to have “benefited humanity through her magnificent epic writing”. Her works deal with moral and racial issues, particularly Apartheid in South Africa. Many of her books were banned in South Africa for that reason. Active in the Apartheid movement she was a friend and confidant to Nelson Mandela.

We will read and discuss three engaging short stories by Gordimer as well as an article on her impact on social justice and role in the fall of Apartheid.

You will be able to attend the event in person or virtually. To sign-up for the event please contact Gwendolyn Díaz-Ridgeway. When you RSVP you will receive links to a Gordimer reader containing the stories and to the article. Indicate whether you will attend in person or by Zoom.
