Luncheon: Transitional Justice in the Central African Republic and Its Importance for Reconciliation

  • Zoom Virtual Platform and ESSARP, Esmeralda 672, 7th Floor CABA Argentina (map)

Below is the recording of the luncheon presentation:

Francisco González Centeno, MSc Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science, will be the UWC July luncheon speaker. He currently holds the post of Field Officer, Country Office, Central African Republic, Division of External Operations, International Criminal Court. He will talk about his work in this post since 2019.

The Central African Republic has been plagued by corruption and conflict for several decades, leaving it in a vulnerable state of underdevelopment. There is now an ongoing process of transitional justice (“… transitional justice refers to how societies respond to the legacies of massive and serious human rights violations”) aimed at ending impunity and providing some measure of justice to the many victims. Francisco will talk about this transitional justice within the current context of the country and its importance for the construction of peace and social cohesion to enable the country to move forward.

Francisco González Centeno previously worked as a specialist in illicit trafficking in cultural goods at UNESCO and was also Under-Secretary at the Chambers of the Chief Justice of Argentina. As a political scientist and sociologist, he specializes in transitional justice, access to justice, law enforcement and the Rule of Law and the impact of these on social cohesion, reconciliation and peace building.
