As always, the director of Orquesta de los Barrios, Maestro Nestor Tedesco, continues to be the constant source of inspiration and primary driving force behind the amazing progress of the musicians over the years. In order to prepare the young musicians for a professional career in music if they so desire, the support group Makes every effort to ensure that their appearances have the semblance of a professional performance, including receiving a fee. This fee is paid in general by the inviting organization, otherwise with incoming donations.
Updates on individual musicians:
Violinists Victoria Ramos and Dafne Pugliese are now back in Paris to complete a year of study at the same Conservatory of Music they attended in October-November 2022. Both are extremely busy with French classes and violin practice, and both are working for their keep, Vicky as an au pair looking after two children and Dafne in an Argentine restaurant.
Ayelén Espíndola, cello, has been hired by the Teatro Colon to play in the Orquesta Filarmónica.
Elías García, flute, has been hired as substitute in the orchestra accompanying two operas at the Teatro Argentino de La Plata.
The Buenos Aires City Government recently named Micaela Sandoval, viola, as a teacher at the youth orchestra program in which she herself began her life of music.
Ariel Nuñez, violin, was a huge success as lead violin and soloist at a recent concert in Bolivia of the Orquesta TAM. Also playing in Bolivia were Orquesta de los Barrios members Ámber Velasco Lazcano and Celeste Ocampo.
The 20 members of the orchestra continue to receive a monthly stipend to help cover incidental costs (increased to $20,000 in September of this year); the individual sponsors paying the monthly stipends include several UWC members. The young pianist Juanito receives additional support to cover the cost of his classes, as does the violinist Ariel Nuñez. For both of them, private classes are an essential component in the advancement of their skills.
The orchestra’s Instagram page, managed by Jacqueline Valle, a member of the support group, is kept up to date with contributions from individual musicians, photos and videos. A website for Orquesta de los Barrios is currently being developed.
The support group is currently in contact with Fundación Integrar and Fundación Pescar regarding plans to move forward within a more systematized structure.
Fundación Angélica Zapata continues to cover a monthly honorarium for the orchestra’s director, Maestro Nestor Tedesco.
