Update of Orquesta de los Barrios Events
2021: The Orchestra de los Barrios ended their successful year in 2021 with live performances at the Asociación Argentina de Cultura Ingles (ACII) on November 16th, as part of the UWC’s last luncheon meeting of the year, the pupils’ graduation ceremony at the AACI on December 2nd, at the Campo Argentino de Polo on December 11th, at the United Community Church in Acassuso on December 12th.
The orchestra was delighted to receive the donation of a violin to Victoria Ramos, one of the violinists, by the family of violinist Juan Alzina (former member of the OrquestaTípicaAníbalTroilo).
In tribute to Juan Alzina, the musical program at the ACCI commenced with a string ensemble playing the first movement of Mozart’s Symphony no. 29, followed by Piazolla’s “Winter”. It was then the turn of the wind instruments, playing the overture of a Telemann Suite and Purcell’s Rondó. The whole orchestra then played the prelude to Carmen and Fed García Vigil’s Symphonic Variations. As encore they played Danzarín, a tango by Anibal Troilo.
The musicians excelled and the entire audience was absolutely captivated by their performance. The amount of praise received in reference to the musical talents of the orchestra, how competently they tackled difficult pieces, and how they are perfecting their skills with every concert. Those who were attending a concert by the Orquesta de los Barrios for the first time were amazed at a quality of music far beyond what they had expected.

In addition to the violin donation, a piano also found its home with the Orquesta de los Barrios, donated by Andrés Colombo, composer of the music for the documentary “El Silencio del Impenetrable”. The musicians of the orchestra decided democratically among themselves that Yanina Santi should be the one to receive the piano (Yanina plays the horn in the orchestra but is studying piano).
Upcoming performances:
The orchestra has been invited to play the national anthems of Argentina and the European Union at the inauguration of the new headquarters of the Delegation of the European Union to Argentina on March 21.
An invitation to perform has also been received from the Asociación Vasca de Argentina; and British Ambassador to Argentina, Kirsty Hayes, has made known her intention to invite the orchestra to play at the Embassy residence.
