Spanish through Experience Meeting Notes

Organized by Spanish through Experience, a group of 11 UWC members visited the Iglesia Anglicana San Salvador (St Saviour’s Church) on Crámer street, Belgrano R. on Friday June 21.

We were welcomed by two Ministers of the Church who introduced us to the history and purpose of this particular church over the past years. St Saviour's was originally built in 1850 by the British Community, at the time working on the construction of the Buenos Aires Railroad System. The St Saviour’s Anglican Church, the "Belgrano Athletics Sports Club" and the Buenos Aires English High School were all built around the same time. The British Community at the time consisted of around 2000 people.

The building has been beautifully maintained and is surrounded by gardens; we were able to enjoy the serene beauty on a peaceful afternoon.

St Saviour's, part of the Anglican Community of Argentina and the World, is “open to the town of to- day”. They organize many activities to serve the entire community: Bible Studies for different age groups, Bridge and Tea, a yearly Craft Fair, Religious Services in English and in Spanish. Their doors are open daily to the public.

St Saviour's is considered one of the historical sites of the city of Buenos Aires.
