Literary Masters: Short Stories by Samuel Beckett

Vivien has chosen two of Samuel Beckett's short stories to read and analyze for the June meeting “The Expelled” and “First Love”. These are part of a group of four and they appeared in several editions, mine being by Faber and Faber Ltd, published in 2009.

Literary Masters Meeting Notes

On June 20, a group of six literature lovers met at Vivien’s to discuss two short stories by
Samuel Beckett. We read “First Love” and “Expelled”, published in 1946. We always
read before our session, but learn so much from Vivien’s explanations, as well as our own comments. When I read over what we discussed together, I find a new work.

Vivien is a wonderful teacher and knows a lot about literature and especially about the works she chooses for us to work with. For me, it’s an opportunity to delve into writing by some of the “Literary Masters” that I often leave aside, choosing something more “entertaining” instead.

Last week, we were so happy to have two members who came for the first time. I hope others will feel welcome to join us too.
