The Summer Without Men by Siri Hustvedt

The UWC Book Club will meet on Tuesday, April 12th at 3pm. We will be reading “The Summer Without Men”. In “The Summer Without Men” the main character, Mia, is forced to reexamine her life when her husband of thirty years decides to take a break from their marriage. The shock of this life change lands her in a psychiatric ward. Once released she returns to her hometown to examine her life as well as the lives of the women around her, ranging from her elderly mother, close friends, teenage girls to her young neighbor. This is a provocative, witty, and revelatory novel about women and girls, love and marriage, and the age-old question of sameness and difference between the sexes.
