Orquesta de los Barrios: Performance at the Embassy of Uruguay in Buenos Aires
Nestor Tedesco and the Orquesta de los Barrios were invited by the Embassy of Uruguay to perform at the country’s Independence Day celebrations that began with a ceremony at the Puente de la Mujer en Puerto Madera on August 24th, followed on August 26th by two concerts at the Embassy. The performances were a resounding success, thoroughly enjoyed both by the musicians themselves and by the audiences.
Together with the performance in the gardens of the US Embassy last month, these are the only times during the last eighteen months or so that the musicians have been able to play side by side as an ensemble. Their appreciation of this fact was patently obvious in the expressions on their faces and their laughter and chatter afterwards. So once again the magic of making music did its trick and provided these young people with yet another valuable life experience.
The Ambassador of Uruguay and his wife welcomed Nestor Tedesco and the musicians as they would guests of honour and presented them to the audience in very warm terms. All this helped to make the musicians feel at home and glad to be able to bring music into the lives of those present. The repertoire consisted of the Uruguayan national anthem and the Argentine national anthem, followed by tangos and Pericon, a folk piece common to both countries.
Covid-19 precautions were in place throughout the entire proceedings within the Embassy and the audience was spaced both in the salon and in the adjoining garden, with all windows and doors open (at times resulting in sheets of music floating through the air!).
