Continuing Education: Sharing Memories of Antarctica

  • Home of Melodye Rooney (map)

March UWC activities are cancelled.

After much consideration, the UWC Board has decided to cancel the March 17th luncheon and all UWC activities until further notice.  We know this will be a disappointment to many of you, but we prefer to be on the safe side.

For recommendations on self-care during the COVID-19, please see our response to the Coronavirus.

The first talk for the Continuing Education group will take place at Melodye Rooney's home, on March 19th, at 3pm. The talk will be given by UWC member Zelfa Silva on the topic of traveling to Antarctica, and is titled "Sharing Memories of Antarctica.

Zelfa arrived in Buenos Aires 32 years ago, and joined the UWC shortly after getting settled. She studied Marketing & Communication in Denver, Colorado, and became involved in the travel business after graduating. In 1997, she made her first journey to Antarctica, involving a semi-circumnavigation from the Malvinas Islands to New Zealand! The adventure convinced her to get involved in those early days of promoting Antarctica as a travel destination, and for the last 22 years, she has focused on finding travelers the ideal polar cruise of their dreams. She will talk about her expeditions to Antarctica, and share some of the wonderful memories that she has of those voyages. Also, for those of you following the recent news on the record temperatures in Antarctica, Zelfa will discuss some of the changes she has observed in the last few decades.

Please RSVP by March 13th to u.w.c.cont.ed@gmail.com. I would appreciate if you would agree to bring a savory or sweet item to share during the tea afterwards. Please specify what you would like to bring with your RSVP.  Looking forward to this new year of Continuing Education!
