The smile and lifted arms of this happy fellow suggest that his man's body networks are doing well. The network of nerves and circulating substances responsible for coordinating movements and body functions are the secret behind the feelings of wellness. These networks are responsible for well-coordinated body responses. This presentation will focus on the circulating messengers, identifying the origin of the best-known ones and providing information about their role.
Speaker biography: Mariel Birnbaumer is a native Argentinean. She obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires. She developed all her career in the Unites States. She started post-doctoral training at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and finished it at Northwestern University in Chicago. She joined the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where she remained until 1994. She relocated to the UCLA Medical School and remained there until she moved to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Mariel relocated to Argentina in 2014 and joined the UWC shortly after her arrival. Her research and teaching centered on the mechanism of action of hormones.
