When cats and elephants dance in the rain: Three short stories by Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway was a master of the short story. He could pack an entire philosophical or existential essay into 3 or 4 pages of prose. His fictional narratives about the day-to-day challenges people experience are packed with insight and humanity. Gwen has selected three of her favorite ones to discuss in our group: “A Clean Well-Lighted Place”, “Hills Like White Elephants” and “Cat in the Rain.” As we focus on the images, wording and plots of these stories it will become clear why Hemingway continues to be hailed as one of the great writers of the American canon.
