Next in our Lit Webinar series Nobel Prize Winning Women Writers, we will be reading works by Toni Morrison.
Acclaimed, controversial and banned in some curricula, Toni Morrison is one of the most brave and creative American writers of the last several decades. She is considered a literary artist of great merit due to the poetics of her language and style, as well as for her unabashed portrayal of the racial divide in American society.
“My work requires me to think about how free I can be as an African-American woman writer in my genderized, sexualized, wholly racialized world”. Toni Morrison
We will read her extraordinary story “Recitatif” (a narrative that evokes the vocal performance), as well as “Sweetness” an excerpt from her novel God Help The Child. Links to the readings are below.
Links to the two readings are found here: Sweetness and Recitatif
The event will take place in person and virtually. To sign-up for the event please contact Gwendolyn Díaz-Ridgeway to receive the address or the Zoom link.
