Luncheon Speaker: Argentine Journalist, Agustino Fontevecchia

  • Zoom and/or in person Círculo de Gendarmería, Paraguay 970 Argentina (map)

Below is the recording of the presentation:

For the Tuesday, April 23, UWC Monthly Luncheon we are pleased to be meeting at the Círculo de Gendarmería, Paraguay 970. Those who wish to participate on Zoom are also welcome.

Argentine journalist Agustino Fontevecchia will talk on Javier Milei and “synthetic power”: how the ultra-libertarian harnesses his strength in the digital ecosystem to further his political goals.

Mr. Fontevecchia’s short bio can be found here.

Abstract

Javier Milei is an absolute novelty for the Argentine political ecosystem. A member of the global “New Right”, there are certain similarities with other global leaders such as Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro, but Milei´s style is certainly unique.

Without a traditional party structure, regional organization, or legislative strength, the president manages to maintain high popularity levels and intense pressure on his political opponents.

In great part this has to do with his communications strategy and the prowess of his sector on social media, and how those spill over into the real world.
