Medicine in Ancient Egypt
Below is the recording of the virtual luncheon meeting
In talking about medical practices in Ancient Egypt Amani Elghoneimy will be explaining to us how many of them were associated with magic and incantations and how the ancient Egyptians were probably the first people to have highly respected professional doctors. There were even early specializations in areas such as dentistry, proctology, gastroenterology and ophthalmology.
Until the 19th century most of the sources of information on medicine in ancient Egypt were from writers of later antiquity, such as the Greek historian Herodotus.
Amani has consolidated her vast knowledge in the field of Egyptology by working as a tourist guide in her home country and speaking at multiple cultural events related to Egyptology. She is also a sworn translator and interpreter for the Belgian Ministry of Justice. She speaks four languages: French, Dutch, English and Arabic.
