UWC Meets Teatro Colón: The Consul, by Gian Carlo Menotti

  • Belgrano Buenos Aires (map)

“The Consul” tells the misadventures of a politically persecuted man and the Kafkaesque efforts of his wife in a diplomatic headquarters to flee to a free country.

The session will commence with a short talk (in Spanish) by María Victoria Grillo, retired Full Professor of History at the UBA specializing in European Social History and the Cold War – a vey opportune topic at this moment in time! Elena Levin will then take over and present her analysis of the operatic roles.

This Activity will meet in person on the second or third Monday of each month and is limited to six or seven participants. In the following months the featured operas will be “Nabucco”, music by Giacomo Puccini; “L’elisir d’amore”, music by Gaetano Donizetti; “Los Siete Pecados Capitales”, music by Kurt Weill; “El Castillo de Barbazu”, music by Béla Bartók; “Los Pescadores de Perlas”, music by Georges Bizet; and “Tosca”, music by Giacomo Puccini.
